International Healthcare Management

This course deals with advanced aspects of management accounting and control. Students will understand how controllership is set up in international companies and explore the contingencies of management accounting and control, e.g. strategy, organizational life cycle phase, size, and ownership structure. The course also introduces the concept of the levers of control and highlights not only the traditional feedback and constraining function of control systems but also the learning and expanding function of these control levers.
Management accounting and financial accounting are constantly changing and adapting to internal and external circumstances. Financial accounting according to IFRS is continually evolving; developments occur in accounting rules and instruments for financial management are constantly emerging. Following the financial and economic crisis in 2008, accounting changed significantly following the introduction of additional regulatory rules and operating requirements.

• Contingency theory and management accounting and control
• Management accounting and control functions as part of a more comprehensive control model
• Behavioural management accounting and control
• Transfer pricing, corporate and shared service centres
• Valuing businesses
• Corporate restructuring and working capital optimization
• Regulatory changes and issues in financial accounting

This module provides you with concepts central to understanding international competition with a focus on the consumer. You will learn how differences in culture, economic systems and political environments influence consumer behaviour in terms of decision-making in the areas of acquisition, consumption and sales of products, services, experiences and ideas. In addition, you will deal with marketing research from the perspective of a consumer of marketing research, i.e., a busy manager who needs information to make decisions. It is helpful for any future manager to understand how marketing research works and produces its results. You will be enabled to contribute to research design, evaluate the quality of marketing information landing on your desk and, if necessary, conduct marketing research projects yourself.

In the last ten years, international financial markets and instruments have changed fundamentally. In this module, you will be introduced to the basics of modern financial theory and then deal with the topics of pricing, financial policy and corporate control. There is also a focus on investment analysis and portfolio theory as well as their implementation with regard to the portfolio management of companies. You will learn to critically evaluate different investment strategies to maximise returns, minimise risks of portfolios, and discuss best practice approaches around the globe.
